My Original Narconon Experience
Twenty-five years ago I was working as a consultant for CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) where I had surveyed over 150 programs throughout the world. I was contacted by a Narconon Center and asked if I would be available to help them become CARF accredited.
At that time, I had never heard of Narconon, but I was interested in anything that offered an alternative to the programs that I had directed and reviewed, since their outcomes were less than 10% success.
I accepted the assignment and at my first visit, I was very intrigued by the happiness of their “students,” the term they use for those enrolled in the program.
After spending two weeks reviewing their policies and procedures, and talking with graduates and students in the program, I was very impressed with how stable they were in terms of all of the markers that we use to identify relapse potential.
My visit to Narconon was eye-opening in many ways, and it made me realize that the clinical technology that they are using addresses every aspect of addiction. I later invited some of my colleagues from CARF and from other areas of my consulting business to visit a Narconon and experience what I had observed with my introduction.
One esteemed colleague of mine who is the Director of one of the largest residential alcohol and drug rehab programs in North Carolina, USA, said that it was hard for him to believe that clients who have only been there two-months were as stable as his clients who have been clean for two-years.
In the past twenty-five years, I have continually supported the efforts of Narconon since I realized that it is the most effective program I have found: addressing all key areas of addiction and fulfilling the promise of an alcohol- and drug-free life.
I will be happy to go over any of the details of my findings with anyone who might be interested in learning more.
