Signs and Symptoms of LSD Use

Signs and symptoms of LSD can be frightening and hazardous, so it is good that LSD is not widely used in Europe. In the UK, about 5% of the population has tried this drug at some time, with all other countries having lower rates. LSD is most often abused by teens and young adults. Of those between 15 and 24, only Estonia had a last-year usage rate of more than 1%. All other countries had lower rates.

LSD is a strong hallucinogen, so it will distort a person’s perceptions. Some people find this pleasant and others find it terrifying. This distortion is referred to as a “trip.” A trip can be bad or good. Some bad trips can have lasting effects.

Physical Signs and Symptoms of LSD Use

  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Rapid heart rate
  • Blurred vision
  • Dilated pupils
  • Weakness
  • Sweating or chills
  • Increased body temperature
  • Increased heart rate and blood pressure

This experience can last between four and twelve hours.

A person may experience emotional distress such as paranoia, terror, disorientation or depression. Many people have had the impression that they could perform physical acts that they were not capable of performing and were injured as a result.

Perception Changes as a Result of Using LSD

  • Changes in sensation of speed
  • Blended sensory experiences, such as “hearing” colors or “seeing” sounds
  • Intensification of colors, tactile experiences or lights
  • Complete hallucinations, belief that stationary things are still or that unmoving items are moving
  • Trails appearing behind moving objects
  • The sensation that special insights are received while tripping on LSD or that the person has left his (or her) body.

Mostly the Young Use this Drug

Most of the people using this drug or seeking addiction treatment for this drug are under 21 years of age. LSD use can become compulsive, so that a person must undergo drug rehab before they can stop using the drug.

Many people have experienced the fact that LSD lodges in the fatty tissues of the body because flashbacks of LSD experiences can occur even years later. This is a widely acknowledged phenomenon.

Addressing these residues is one of the phases of addiction treatment that one receives at a Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre. Across Europe, there are nearly twenty centres that offer this long-term, holistic program. A holistic program does not just cover up addiction with more drugs; it addresses the entire person, the reason he became addicted to this drug and the skills that person needs in order to stay sober.

Each Narconon rehab centre puts each person through the Narconon New Life Detoxification Program. This step uses a combination of sauna, daily exercise and a strict regimen of nutritional supplements to help enable the body to flush out old toxins.

Life skills are ordinarily damaged during addiction and must be repaired. The Narconon program involves the relearning of those life skills that are most needed to preserve sobriety.
