There are drugs that build dependence and drugs that do not. Drugs are drugs and all contain poison. When you understand that this is a stable fact, then you will always know that any drug can create harmful side effects to our bodies.

I think that the job of being a parent is the most difficult job ever; the parent must constantly be like an investigator and never taking anything for granted. It is very important to note slight differences that your child will exhibit when something is negative since it will be a small change and hard for you to observe. You’ve already observed that when your child is doing something good and he is proud of himself, he will share it, but when the opposite happens and he does something that he is not happy about and he’s not proud of what he’s done, he will hide it by surrounding himself with lies.

The first observation to alert you that you might be dealing with a drug problem is the following: your child seems strange to you; there is something in his eyes that does not convince you that he is okay, he looks as if he is lost in a void, a fixed gaze, as if he is somewhere else. When you notice this kind of change in your son or daughter you MUST begin to investigate. From then on, you need to pay attention and carry on your investigation. All this must be done without your child noticing that you are suspicious. Once you have the evidence you can take steps to help; attacking or hostilely confronting your child will not help them or you.

But now let’s talk about how drugs can be treated as a subject of prevention so you never have to face this.

It is very important to talk with your child from the time they begin elementary school, or earlier, and give them the truth about drugs, and many real examples of how drugs adversely affect people, without hiding it. It is vital that your children see and understand what drugs do and where they can end up. You want to begin to educate children from a young age so that they can decide for themselves to not become involved with drugs.

There is a need for education, for understanding what drugs really are. Our young boys and girls are constantly bombarded with lies and falsehoods and they need to know the truth about drugs. They often take advice from friends as being the truth—these “friends” tell them that if they take drugs, it will solve their problems. We have to help our children become brave and give them courage and help our kids to face life and its difficulties. We have to spend time with them so they see the real long-term effects and degradation caused by drugs and teach them the differences in each drug so they are fully aware of the truth about them.

Remember the most important thing—education is the key to understanding the truth about drugs.
