Drug-Free Rehab — How Does It Work?

Talking about a drug-free rehab requires some clarification. A rehab is not the same thing as a medical detox. Med detox helps a person through a dangerous withdrawal, as happens after long, heavy alcohol consumption, or lengthy use of benzodiazepines. With some drugs and also because of some physical conditions, a person may need close medical supervision. He may also need medication to alleviate some dangerous symptoms of withdrawal. For example, alcohol withdrawal can trigger high fevers and seizures. Medication may be needed to keep these symptoms to a minimum.

A person may also need to be tapered off a drug like methadone, a long-acting opiate. At a medical detox, a person can have his (or her) dosage cut back day after day until he is clean. He would then start a drug rehab program.

Once a person is on the rehab program, if there are no drugs given as part of the treatment, a person has a real chance to see what a drug-free life feels like. While the administration of substitute medications like methadone, buprenorphine or diacetylmorphine may alleviate a person’s need for criminal actions like robberies, prostitution or buying drugs from dealers, the person does not have a chance to get drug-free. He will still be living in a drugged condition.

At Narconon drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers, it is felt that a drug-free recovery is the best preparation for a long, sober future.

Nutrition Helps Support a Person in Recovery

As soon as a person arrives and is accepted into the Narconon program, he is given generous nutritional support to help his body detoxify and to calm some of the symptoms of withdrawal (if he was not already in a med detox). Most addicts are in a terrible physical condition when they arrive and need to build up their strength. As the body is fed this nutrition, most people find that withdrawal symptoms are calmed as the nutritional deficiencies the person was suffering would have aggravated those symptoms.

During Withdrawal, the individual will receive personal attention and special techniques that ease discomfort and painful symptoms. While going through this step, some people will comment things like, “They kept me out of my head,” in other words, these techniques help keep the person focused on recovery and the future—not the disasters of the past.

A Detoxification Utilizes More Nutrition

Soon after Withdrawal, each person goes through an innovative sauna detoxification step, called New Life Detoxification, which enables each person to flush out old, stored drug toxins. Every time a person used heroin, amphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, a heavy dose of alcohol or any other drug, the body would store residues of this drug abuse in the fatty parts of the body. It is hard for these residues to be eliminated but they have been shown to affect thinking and outlook, even years later. When the body gets the right support to be able to detoxify these residues, a person can find himself thinking more clearly. Many people say their energy is much better and that their cravings are even reduced or even gone.

From this point, it is possible to start focusing on developing the life skills that will support a new, sober life.

This is the very simple method used by Narconon drug rehab centers to rehabilitate a person who was addicted, without the use of any drugs as part of the program. Learn how the entire program works by contacting Narconon Europe today.
